When Australia Day Needs To Change Date So We Don't Celebrate Genocide
Even when presented with alternative dates for the Australia Day celebrations there are those who will claim that those dates aren’t “reasonable and logical”. When pressed into the conversation, one such respondent provided that his answer to “reasonable and logical” was plain as long as it’s on the day that celebrates genocide he doesn’t care. His type of thinking is what is holding this country back. It is what is keeping us stagnant.
When it was pointed out to him by two different people that during WW1 the date of Australia Day was indeed changed, he only pointed out that it was for the war but it wasn’t really Australia Day because it wasn’t on the 26th of January. When those changes of the date was in fact the actual spirit of what it means to be Australian, what we should have been celebrating, not the genocide of Native people from this land.
How can we progress forward when we have a noose around our necks? People who think like this keep pulling us backwards thus choke us with every step forward. When is it enough? When can we be granted a sword to finally cut ourselves free from this rope of death and destruction?
I like the idea of having the spirit of Australians to be celebrated on the first or even second Friday of February. That way there is no fixed date, but there is always a long weekend. In this way we can continue the public holiday date on the 26th of January but it to be changed to officially Mourning Day and have it similar to ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day. So there is a brand new public holiday that is still in summer to enjoy having a BBQ with kith and kin.
The fact that the hold of the 26th to be only for “Australia Day “ is rooted in racism. It is the only logical and reasonable answer. Why would anyone want to knowingly celebrate genocide?
I have included the exact words that was said during a TikTok discussion on Australia Day. If you want to read the full conversation https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS6VGbU1...
It's time that, not only calling out people who speak like this, but show the world who they really are.
@Teddy:Funny havnt seen one video with a logical reasonable date change solution, nice try champ 😂
@Teddy:How is it agaitaged 😂😂 u havnt come up with a reasonable and logical alternative and that’s me agitated 😂😂 what a W⚓️
@Teddy:So it’s the same date but in diff days 😂😂😂that’s makes sense 🙄 not
@Teddy:Funny she never offers an educated alternative she just waffles on about it. That’s the thing they don’t want it changed they want it abolished
@Teddy:30 July 1915 an 'Australia Day' would be celebrated across the country, and funds would be raised to help the Australian Division of the Red Cross. Tell me what that has to do with 25th Jan 😂😂
@Teddy:You literally said ad I quote keep the 26th as a holiday, your literally contradicting urself. U can’t even keep up with your own stories. I’m not wasting my time on u 😂😂🙄 seeya
@Teddy:Can u understand in your tiny tiny little mind they don’t want the 26th as a date it needs to be a completely different date and meaning, wow the gene pool is low in this lot.
@Teddy:😂😂So angry and triggered 🙄 I’m happy with any other logical date but thanks for telling me what I think 😂 THEY don’t want another day they want it abolished.
@Teddy:I havnt suggested a date change bc I’m not the one suggesting it changes, pretty simple to understand 🙄
@Teddy:No a smart person would understand that even Anzac Day is also a day people drink and enjoy themselves 😂😂 so bad comparison for u, thought a smart person would see that 😂😂
@Teddy:Firstly never said any other date isn’t good enough I said come up with one that’s relevant for all and I’ll happily agree 😘
@Teddy:Cue the wives tale rhetoric that it has been changed bc uneducated people think it was in July and don’t realise that wasn’t the same day or meaning 😂😂 it’s been Aus day since 1818 when first record
@Teddy:Incorrect completely diff meaning, one Aus day is about raising the flag in Sydney cove in 1788 and the July one in 1915 was for the war effort, nice try though 😂😂😂
@Teddy:Really don’t know where I confirmed any of that hahah what a complete W⚓️u are 😂😂 no wonder people don’t want to change the date when people like u act the way u do 😂
@Teddy:Hasn’t been changed at all 🙄 the day u are talking about was in 1915 and it was a day for the war effort nothing to do with the 26th Jan and first fleet, wish people would educate themselves 🙄
@Teddy:Sure do and will celebrate it every year 😂😂 just like your voice vote, Aus day won’t be changing anytime soon 😂😂 and I’ll celebrate it every year while I want your tears, enjoy your weekend 😂😂😘
@Teddy:😘😘 served 27 years in the ADF I might k ow more about it than you sweetie pie 😂😂😂 I’ll drink your tears on Aus day and Anzac Day 😂😂😂
@Teddy:Where did I prove it 😂😂😂 u said it was a completely diff day and meaning the July one, it’s been the 26th Jan since 1818 in NSW. You seriously are a special person 😂😂😂
