Second Amendment And Gun Reforms
The hold that Americans have on the 2nd Amendment is horrifying.
Republicans and their civilian lackeys don’t hold onto the 3rd. They didn’t care about the 12th Amendment on January 6. They don’t care about the 14th, 15th, or 19th or they wouldn’t agree with keep making bills and laws that will subjected citizens to be against those Amendments.
You either care about ALL of the constitution or none of it. Unfortunately you can see this with Christian Nationalists, with their pick and choosing of biblical scriptures.
So whilst the 2nd amendment in a nutshell says “right to bare arms” there is a lot more to do with it.
“Second Amendment: Right to Bear Arms
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”
The questions then come up…should there be laws that allow any citizen to be able to own and fire guns without the proper training and secure holding of firearms, or should they be only be allowed in a well regulated manner as branches of the military who utilize weaponry often have to undergo?
As an Australian, I have seen the potential positives of laws where it is regulated. Do criminals get a hold of firearms, yes, however not nearly as often as criminals in America do because the regulations prohibit them from getting one easily.
Far too often we hear breaking news of “yet another shooting in America, this time at…” something that was shocking and is now “how many injured, how many dead”, with “That’s America for you”.
Political representatives, say their bits with mostly Republican representatives mentioning “thought’s and prayers” instead of actually doing something about it. They rather put laws in place that forbid medical health care and making it illegal to perform the care needed, in the claims that they are protecting children, but when schools are being shot up they do nothing to protect those children! The hypocrisy of this is astounding.
They have misled their constituents into believing that those who suggest the regulation of gun ownership just want to “take your guns” because it is “your right to bare arms “ so they repeat the same nonsense. How’s this for food for thought, if there was a country wide regulation stating that you have to have adequate training, sufficient storage for your firearms, and ongoing yearly proof of mental capacity to operate a weapon, as the military personnel have to do, and you were worried about not having your weapons – that is the cause of concern that those who want regulated guns are talking about.
There are more firearms than people in the US. Children are finding weapons and killing others. Children are being killed. And still you claim “rights”. The liberty of safety of the citizens of the United States of America is at stake with the refusal of the removal of weapons in a regulated manner.
Another point of difference between America and Australia, is our Police personnel do not have a trigger happy finger coz “there might be a weapon “. In Australia, if you get pulled over the chance of being killed for nothing, is slim for majority of the people. A small % are affected by racial profiling of police due to systemic racism. The police however aren’t scared that they may have a gun pulled on them. Their American counterparts on the other hand are. A fake gun could render a kid dead – has happened. And the “I thought there was a gun so I was afraid for my life so I shot them” line get repeated over and over again. Even the line “good people need guns to stop bad people “ is just that, a line. It didn’t apply when the cops didn’t go in a school because the shooter had a gun. So they stood outside and let the shooter kill more kids.
As an Australian I am grateful that my kids don’t have to worry about that. But as someone who would love to visit America, I am horrified at a chance that if I went there I would be shot.
I can see another generation who will have so much trauma to unwrap as adults, so many broken emotional adults and a lack of mental health facilities to cope with it. We are handing these upcoming generations a broken planet with a “no way to come back” notice. The direction we are headed, another civil war will occur in the not so distant future, which will bring in a World War as the rise of fascism and the parallels to WW2 has begun.
The ferociousness that the “you can’t take our guns” side is going, sounds very reminiscent of “you can’t take our slaves”. This is why I said a civil war is on the horizon. The pot that is America right now, is a combination of two points in history that those pushing this are happy to erase.
It's not a call to remove firearms in it’s entirety, it is a call to regulate such firearms. That way the 2nd amendment is still being protected as are the lives on which the country’s future depends on, what the Founding Fathers would have wanted.
